Not sure if it was this bottle or producer or region, but it had a slight funk to it that reminded me of Aussie Riesling. Smelled strongly of rubber, and no petrol or mineral edge I love from German Riesling normally. I think it could work with food, but not delicious on it's own. Not a bad wine, but not the beautiful purity I look for in German Riesling. I have a bottle of the 2011 I will try soon for comparison...
