Saturday, May 14, 2005 - I served this blind and the guesses were mostly mid 80s to 90s Calif. Meritage. The wine shows little signs of age at 14 yrs. old. The color has lightened a bit for zin to sort of dark Pinot Noir color, but without any rim color changes. There is plenty of bright raspberry in the nose with a trace of faint barnyard aromas. The palate is very smooth and velvety without any hard edges. There is still a fair amount of acid and almost completely resolved tannin. The finish fairly lengthy and smooth. This wine will continue to age, though I'm not sure it's going to develope anymore complexity as it showed almost no secondary flavors at this point. Still a very enjoyable drink. Bought on release for under $10.
