Saturday, January 14, 2017 - Bday wine for Evan. PNP. Cork perfect. Color is garnet w bricking edges. Nose dominated by secondary aromas mostly cedar and tobacco w plum. Swishing shows soft structure, mostly dominated by oak tannin still. Sipping this does not hide the oak because the fruit is fading I think. Nevertheless a nice drink. My palate was warmed up by non-oaky wine before this, so I think it makes the oak more prominent.
With air and a little time the fruit came out and the structure softened further. I started out thinking that this was over the hill, but will correct my opinion to fully mature and drinking beautifully.
