2009 Château Rollan de By

Community Tasting Note

Likes this wine:

Thursday, January 18, 2024 - 14% alcohol. M 70%, CS 20%, PV 10%. The cork is long and of decent quality; some tartrate deposits and very little wine penetration. Decanted 40mn ahead. The colour is quite deep with no sign of ageing.
Strong powdery sensation on the nose at first, but this recedes with time in the glass, giving way to mellow dark fruited aromas enlivened by a hint of bell pepper. No obvious oak. Similar in the mouth, which adds good grip and a strong note of menthol in the finish.
Frankly better than what I was expecting, but still a good few steps behind the likes of Clos Manou and Jaugueyron. Very affordable at the time of buying, and I suspect even now. That segment of the Bordeaux market has seen its prices stagnate over the last fifteen years.
Not a repeat purchase, but only because there are several more exciting alternatives.
