Friday, April 17, 2015 - A strong, vibrant ruby color. PnP straight out of the wine fridge this possessed really bright and transparent fruit both on the nose and palate, but unfortunately there was no preventing the strong coconutty oak note from emerging. It's not repulsive, but on the nose it is literally all over the place, forcing the dry, beautifully ripe red fruit to play the second fiddle. Some smoky and floral aromas are to be found also, but there is simply no denying that mostly one is smelling the oak here. On the palate the oak - while obvious for sure - is unable to mask the ripe, explosively juicy fruit. Fairly full bodied with quite gripping tannins, but polished and drinkable. Firm and dense, but not jammy or overblown. Red fruited with floral and minerally nuances. An interesting and good wine from the unknown parts of Piemonte, although I would have preferred it to stay as it was right after opening.
