95 Points

Tuesday, December 26, 2017 - I have tried this a few times over the last decade and often found it to be obstinately backward, showing only few glimpses of what lies ahead. Recently I released three from storage. Dark fruits, tobacco and secondary development, with an alluring cool fruited languid palate. It has residual tannins but has lost its previous austerity. Very classy, delightful, lush, yet understated palate. Fine finish. This is evolving into a magnificent wine. Virtue of a good Ducru is on the mid-palate. It has has a fair amount of power and density but it is delivered so seamlessly. With a wine like this you can understand why some regarded it as the Lafite of St-Julien. I took some 1986 Ducrus out at the same time, which are now drinking very well, and a wine I have always liked. But the 1995 is the better wine, better than the 1982 as well.
