2009 Château Lafon-Rochet

Saturday, July 6, 2019 - This is showing much better than it did a few years ago, when it was totally closed for business. Now this is enjoyable upon opening. It sports a purplish color that is starting to lighten to ruby. The nose is classically restrained and shows hallmark weedy currant scents with slight secondary notes. The palate is medium bodied and features vigorous fruit that is at least a few years away from maturity.

After a couple hour decant, this reveals glossy dark fruit with polished tannins. The nose develops leather and tobacco notes. Definitely better with a couple of hours of air, but this has some more filling out to do in the next decade.

I’ll check back on this in two or three years to be safe, but this has a nice trajectory that should last at apogee through 2030+. If you have a stash of these, it would be good to check one today to satiate curiosity.
