90 Points

Friday, February 10, 2012 - Garnet color. Nose: blackberry, blueberry, and sour cherry with accents of leather, licorice, baking spices, and espresso. Medium body on the palate: more bright blackberry, blueberry, and cherry fruit framed by licorice, baking spices, orange peel, a hint of roasted meat, and a pronounced streak of iron/graphite minerality. Medium+ acidity. Moderate chalky tannins. Lingering blueberry skin, orange peel, and iron/graphite minerality on the moderate/long finish. Has a more modern personality than usual...probably due to the generously fruity vintage. Comes across almost Syrah-like. Very attractive, if not very typical. Give it another year or two to integrate and drink over the following 5 years.
