Wednesday, November 20, 2013 - Borderline ruby/garnet color. The nose seemed a bit vegetal to start with, but that faded. Then blackberry, black cherry, brambles, violet, licorice, forest floor. A bit hot on the palate (seems more than its 14% abv). Brambles, tar, cherry. High tannin and acidity, full bodied. Long finish of tart fruit, chewy tannins, nice acidity, earthy minerality. After tasting this again 18 months later, I would recharacterize the earthiness as being mainly a musty, old, dirty barrel taste. Not a good thing....
