Saturday, November 29, 2008 - 2 hour decant. Initially very closed and fairly tight in the nose. Dark purple to the rim. Nearly opaque. After 2 hours it began to finally open up with an expressive bouquet of cherry, earth, slight herbal aromas, and other dark fruit. On the palate it was medium to full bodied with still prominent (but still smooth) tannins and medium acidity. Initial taste of tart cherries faded to reveal dark fruits, aged tobacco, earth, vanilla, well integrated oak, but with a wonderful balance. Begs for more cellaring and/or a more heathly decanting time. I look forwards to my next tasting in a few years. Suggestive that it will improve over years.
