Saturday, April 7, 2018 - Still pools dark in the decanter, very dark with no evidence of bricking. Wonderful dark fruit and fully integrated tannins with a finish that seems to be getting sweeter over time. Just past its peak and beginning to slide; drink 'em up!
I have suspected for years that they build Caymus for early consumption. The way this bottle aged tells me I'm probably right! I have now purged every bottle of Caymus from my cellar, save for one bottle of '07...they just don't seem to fare that well past the decade mark IMHO. In fact, my highest score for this wine was at the five-year mark!

4/24/2022 7:00:00 PM - Spot on again...I have also purged my Post 2007 Caymus SS...I have tried saving a coupe 2004 and 2006's since my daughters were born in this years but I fear they will will fare poorly by their 21st birthdays (the bottles not my girls... 😉) After the old man (Charlie) died in 2002 I think the wines have never been the same. Now they are way too ripe, extracted and high in alcohol to age well.

    Cheers!
