Saturday, August 6, 2011 - Quite dark in the glass for a chianti. Nose of black cherry and licorice with a touch of espresso. Palate has slightly edgy hard tannins, but nice fruit concentration with a darker fruit profile, low but plentiful acidity, and nice complexity. Finishes with a slightly bitter edge, crisp mineralogy and tart cherry pit. Quite nice for the price and should settle down and improve in the next few years. Slightly modern style with plentiful oak.
Really opened up on day 2, with beautiful slightly candied but complex red fruit pushing forward, and the tannin structure moving to the back. Should be great in 3-5yrs.
