Wednesday, January 9, 2013 - Had the Dom Perignon 2002 and Taittinger Comte de Champagne 2002 side by side. The DP was more toasty on the nose and broader and wilder on the palate with a pronounced acidity poking through in the finish. There was also some bitterness on the back palate. The Comte was absolutely fabulous and the better wine. More "winey" on the nose, like a young Meursault, and the way it sat on the palate was one of total harmony. It just didn't have any hard edges, even at this early stage. The fruit is broad and multilayered, balanced by elegant and well integrated acidity. One of the best young champagnes I have tasted!
