Friday, December 25, 2015 - Garnet, with ruby edges, opaque. Aroma a bit reserved at first, opened up over two hours; dark cherry and blackberry mixed with grilled meat and leather, elegant and complex rather than very powerful. The flavors are black fruits, very dark and rich; perfect balance with acid and tannins in the background, anise building on the back of the tongue with a slight "bite". The aftertaste carries through the dark, deep flavors and lasts at least a minute. It went perfectly with chateaubriand with herb butter. Very drinkable, doubt it has much room to improve, but should certainly last a number of years. A big wine, but seems to be a bit softer and more elegant than some of Christophe's other syrahs.
