Sunday, October 9, 2022 - Purchased for $70. I've been eyeing this up in my local wine store, but always had a reason "not" to pull the trigger. But this time, I got the urge. Quinta do Vesuvio is one of the most traditional Quintas and I'm a sucker for tradition. The grapes are picked and sorted by hand and then foot trodden for 4hrs. I've read that the first 3hrs are a traditional "march" and the final hour is a "dance". Whatever it is they do, they make a marvelous wine. This Port is a garnet in color with hints of tan and burnt orange. The nose is simply outstanding with kirsch, blackberry liquor, boysenberry jam, spice and vanilla. On the palate, this takes my breath away. Rounded tannins, but still some strength left. Absolutely delicious juicy acidity. Hard to believe this wine is over 20yrs old. Dark cherry, vanilla, spice, blueberry compote. This is really youthful. In fact, if it wasn't for the color, I would have never guessed this was 20+ years old. This has the legs for another 20. Outstanding. Grade: A
