Friday, July 15, 2011 - Popped and poured at restaurant without detailed notes. Initially showed with strong oak influence with gobs of vanilla cream in the nose palate and finish with concentrated silky fruit underneath. Over several hours the wine tightened up, showing it's smooth polished tannic structure. By the end of the night, this was a delightful cali cab with blackberries and vanilla spice on the nose, a palate of opulent (I hate this descriptor, but it's apt) concentrated dark tinged fruit, with more currants and blackberry than cassis, and a very long fruit filled finish that hangs on the palate for nearly a minute. I would put this up with Cali cabs 3x the price. A strong effort that should have the balance and polish to age.
Day 2: Wow, this really came together. oak integrated on the nose, showing cedar spice with brighter redder fruit with clear cherry and cassis character, with the faintest hint of green pepper. Still silky smooth concentrated palate, with expressive mild chocolate on the finish, with a very long red fruit note. Soft, polished, barely present tannins, with enough acidity for lift, Bumped a point.
