Wednesday, October 23, 2013 - I am not a big fan of this wine's 15.3% alcohol and the amount of up-front fruit comes on a bit too strong for my tastes. However, there is an appealing level of complexity and nuance to this wine that suggests it warrants a second chance. Notes of wood and cedar and a tobacco infused earthiness are nice counter balances to the sweet-tart berry flavors. Let's see how it holds up to the evening's tasting. I for one will not be waiting for it to become a 90 plus wine after hours in the decanter. It has about 30 minutes to show its best before I ask for either the trumpet or gong. After 30 minutes: downgrade and bring out the gong.
