98 Points

Sunday, November 16, 2014 - (Decanted for two hours.) The ACV remains hauntingly dark, as it still has not completely shaken off its primary purple robe. The nose remains one of my benchmarks for a California cabernet: a complex blend of perfectly ripe fruit, saddle leather, cigar box, eucalyptus, and savory spice aromas. On this occasion, there is a hint of mushroom soup and chocolate milk to boot. Full-bodied in the mouth, the concentrated flavors are beautifully rendered without a hint of over-extraction. The ripe plum, blueberry, cherry and espresso flavors are very clearly and cleanly expressed (due to the zesty acidity) and are mixed with earth, tobacco and red currant gravy undertones. This bright and savory flavor profile is quite delicious. The long finish is not to be believed and the fine tannins of a last year are all but in abeyance. Even better than I remember it, this stunning wine is fully deserving of 98+ points.
