93 Points

Tuesday, December 16, 2014 - Coravin taste. First time trying this, and wanted to compare to the 2007 which I have had a couple of times recently. Upon initial pour, there is a huge jammy nose of fruit which can be smelled from feet away. On the palate, it is initially big and fruity, but a touch overbearing and one-dimensional. After 45 min of air, some forest floor emerges on the nose, and the palate starts to come into balance. Some herbal notes start to come through, and this has lovely viscosity on the tongue. No problems with heat.

Overall, at this stage, the 2008 is bigger and richer than the 2007, but also less complex and interesting (for my palate). For right now, I would prefer to drink the 2007. But the potential for this one is clear, and it starts to drink well even now with considerable air time. I recall the 2007 having more herbaceous notes and more acidity, which I appreciated. In any case, this is going to be really good, but I will hold off on my 08s for a few years. I still have 01s, 06s, and 07s to drink. 93 pts for now but with 2-4 point upside possible.
