89 Points

Tuesday, April 26, 2016 - 2008 Napa Valley Cabernet Night (Lincoln Squre Steaks, Amsterdam Ave, New York City): This is a tough one to rate. Ultimately it was slightly disappointing with a heavy mouthfeel and notes of stewed fruit on the palate. About half of my 8 person group also felt it was very (and too much so) acidic. I wanted to love this, but ended up only liking it.

All that being said, one person to our group was an hour late, but we had poured him a glass. He thought it was great, with none of the cooked fruit and high acid flavors. I took a sip, and a lot of that blew off. But I can't rate it on that one sip. But with the right conditions, this could edge into 92 point territory.

No where near the 97 points Parker gave it, but still very respectable. I'll try another bottle in a six months, and let it breathe much longer.

4/27/2016 2:23:00 PM - Well it looks like there may be some promise, as you seemed to have a little better experience with this wine than I did. My fingers are crossed for you in six months! Cheers!

4/27/2016 3:08:00 PM - I did as a matter of fact. I opened a 2011 Bevan EE and a 2011 Bevan Curmudgeon. My specific notes are here on Cellar Tracker.

They were "good" I suppose, but there was really no "wow" factor for me at all. The typical Russell Bevan depth and unctuousness was missing. I love Bevan's wines, but the 2011s were nothing I would chase down in the future. I suppose they are somewhat successes for the vintage, but again, atypical of what Bevan usually pumps out in terms of rich flavor profiles. If you have some, I'd drink them now. If you don't, I say don't bother. His 2012 and 2013 wines are very good!

4/27/2016 8:24:00 PM - Like you I wanted to really like this given the big WA Parker score but have also been somewhat disappointed with these. I will try a longer decant next time as well! Thanks for the excellent note!

7/1/2020 3:55:00 PM - Drinking beautifully today. Classic Conn Valley, classic aged Napa claret. This bottle easily matches the average CT score of 94. Well into secondary fruit flavors, soft silky tannins, alcohol not coming across hot.
