Dark ruby with crimson hue, showing aromas of roasted espresso, jammy sweet fruits, toasty oak, vanilla, coconut, ripe fruits, violet and hints of menthol.
Still young and structured on palate, oak is prominent with vanilla and coconut flavours, nice sweetness from the fruits, supple dark cherry and plum. Good finishing. This is very new world style to me. 2001 is indeed a top vintage for Rioja with richness and purity of the fruits.
