James' Review
In 1998 long-term owners the Vogt family began planting vines on their property, which has a substantial frontage to the Maroondah Highway at Coldstream. Over the next 8 years they established 19.2ha of cabernet sauvignon, pinot noir, marsanne, viognier, and shiraz. All of the grapes were purchased by Yering Station under an ongoing contract. In 2007 the situation changed, when the Magdziarz family Robert, Irene, and daughter Olivia bought the property. Both their parents survived the odds of concentration camps in World War II, and separately were able to make their way to Australia. Robert started as a butcher, which led to cooking and hospitality, thence to front of house, and ultimately management. All this before he was appointed, at the age of 25, to be general manager of the Moonee Valley Racing Club. Irene had started in hospitality, but changed her career to the police force, becoming a senior detective. When she felt the need to go back to where she had begun, hospitality, she met Robert. She introduced him to wine, and it so engulfed them that they completed diplomas in viticulture in the mid-1990s, and bought land at Kyneton to plant their first vineyard. Nothing succeeds like experience, and they realised the difficulties, selling the vineyard in 2003, but never giving up their dream of becoming successful vignerons. In 2007 they were on hand when the Vogts decided to sell, and the rest is history.
