Situated on the high plateau of Barsac, the estate of Château Piada mentioned in the “Hommages d’Aquitaine” in 1274 is one of the oldest vineyards of Barsac & Sauternes. Like the Graves region to the north, Sauternes is protected from winds off the Atlantic by the vast Landes forest. Its vineyards stretch along a narrow band of land on the left bank of the Garonne river between the Graves to the north and the town of Langon to the South.
Château Piada's vineyards are planted on gravely terraces near the Garonne river. In the autumn, the grapes are left on the fine to develop Botrytis or "Noble Rot." Fermentation takes place in oak barrels and the wine spends a further 12 months aging in oak before bottling.
