Chateau Kalecik vineyards is located - on meanwhile 50 hectares - in Kalecik Ankara which is home of Kalecik Karasi, the most demanded indigenous red wine varietal in Turkey. It is the first Turkish and French wine joint venture in Turkey and is the success story of Riza Kutlu, Chairman of a large Turkish holding group and the French winemaker Louis Negre. In 1998 they started to plant 25,000 autochton Kalecik Karasi vines on five hectares, followed by additional two hectares in 2004. As base for their different blends, they in 1999 planted another five hectares with international grape varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Carignan and Tannat.

Their wines are estate wines under the technical consultancy of the French winemaker Jean Vincent Ridon . They use Guyot double pruning technique, state of the art cellar technology and french oak barrels to reach a high quality standard.
Most recently they produced two mono-cépage from Kalecik Karasi grapes and from Cabernet Sauvignon, a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot as well as different blends of Merlot, Syrah, Carignan and Tannat (Fransiz Kupaj).

Without any doubts Chateau Kalecik has contributed to the improvement of the wine quality in Turkey. Since several years they are part of the small group of top wine producers in Turkey.
