Robert Young Estate Winery Red Winery Road Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve 2006

Robert Young Estate Winery Red Winery Road Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2006

Robert Young was the first wine grape grower to plant Cabernet Sauvignon in Alexander Valley, Sonoma County, California. As a pioneer for “Cab”, Bob helped establish his region as a premier appellation for the varietal. Over the years, Alexander Valley has become an alternative for Napa Valley, a warm area where Cabernet Sauvignon ripens fully with classic flavors, an area where wines are sold at prices much lower that those from Napa.

Robert Young Estate winemaker, Kevin Warren, thinks the Cabernet Sauvignons he made from the fruit harvested at Robert Young Vineyards in 2006 were extraordinary. The wines were full of aromas of blackberry and blueberry (like baked pie) and had hints of pepper spice. Each vintage Kevin makes several versions of his “Cabs” from unique hillside sections of the Robert Young estate vineyard. He bottles the wines separately due to their singular characteristics. He saves prized parts of each separate batch to blend together and make Red Winery Road Reserve. The Reserve is often one of the most complex and smooth “Cabs” of the vintage.
Kevin’s 2006 RWR Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon is very well balanced, lively, and has a wealth of flavors and aromas that reveal themselves one after another as the wine opens up. The wine is chock full of black cherry, blackberry, cranberry, and cola flavors. The tannins are plentiful yet smooth, and they offer the wine a good structure to go with its rich mouth feel, along with providing a gripping finish. This wine has characteristics of a French Bordeaux mixed with the ripeness of a California Cabernet.
