The torchbearer for the wines of this once highly-sought-after northern Saar vineyard lands was the Linz family, who were book dealers and newspaper publishers as well as vintners. Some of this land seems to have come into the possession by marriage to the Dr. Fischer family, but now is, I believe, the possession of the von Othegravens.
Roman Niewodniczansky of van Volxem has been actively purchasing, and, when necessary, replanting land in the Wawern vignoble. He has been bottling a Wawerner Goldberg since 2007, including a VDP Auction Wine that year that made quite an impression on some of the critics. jht.
