Sourcing

Old vineyards from the Cima Corgo sub-region of the Douro region. The backbone of our Churchill's Vintage blend comes from the old vines at Quinta da Gricha.

Grape Varieties

A field blend from old vineyards (average age over 50 years) including many grape varieties such as Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Barroca and Tinto Cão.

Tasting Notes

Dark brick red colour. Concentrated baked aromas with resinous background. Rich and complex on the palate with plenty of acidity and good tannic structure.
(23rd May 2011).

Cellaring Recommendation

Approachable from 2020.
Peak condition 2030-2045.

Recommended Serving Temperature

Serve at cellar temperature (12º-15ºC).

Decanting

Decant before serving.

Serving Recommendations

Best appreciated on its own after lunch or dinner, but can also be savoured with rich cheeses or a relaxing cigar.

Churchill’s 2000 marks a milestone in Churchill’s history. It is the first Churchill’s Vintage year where we are Port growers and not only Port shippers. The Vintage blend now includes Ports produced from our own estates of Quinta da Gricha and Quinta do Rio.

The word that I would use to describe the Churchill’s 2000 is “intensity”. The colour is dark purple and intense. The nose is complex and concentrated and the taste is solid and intensely focused with a good tannin structure.
