The 2008 VIADER Estate Limited Edition, or "Black Label" is a blend of 52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 44% Syrah, with a touch of Malbec (3%) and Cabernet Franc (1%) from the VIADER Howell Mountain estate. Alan Viader, (Delia's son) created the blend selecting the most promising lots, and produced under 400 cases.

In a few words: it's inky, juicy, with supple tannins. The wine has a dark inky color from the Syrah and Malbec, and due to its elegant, composed structure it also made us think of "Black Tie," so we had fun with the name. Aromas of figs, with juicy black cherry, huckleberry and blackberry. My favorite is the mouthwatering acidity on the finish that comes with waves of slight earthiness, minerality and sweet oak flavors. It invites you to have a second glass.

The secret ingredient in this blend is the Malbec, which Alan planted under a 1/4 acre in 2004. After spending a harvest in Mendoza, he decided to cultivate the variety on our estate. The yields are small but the juice is very concentrated with blackberry and soft supple tannins. It's kind of like the "pinch" of salt that brings everything together!
