Vineyard: The vineyard is the largest of the northern appellations. It covers 11 communes in the Drôme on the left bank of the Rhone.
Soils: north, soils consist of granite slopes following those of the Hermitage to the south, are alluvial and glaciofluvial terraces of the Rhone pebbles or loess.
Climate: facing south in the hills. Prevailing wind: the Mistral.
Production area: 1298 ha annual production: 54,000 hl. ; Maximum authorized yield: 45 hl / ha.
Grape varieties: Syrah (possibly 15% of Marsanne or Roussanne maximum).
Average production: 100 000 (75 cl.) Per year.
Varietal: 100% Syrah.
Winemaking
The grapes are picked by hand at optimum ripeness. Is destalked 100%. Fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature of 28-32 ° C in open concrete tanks. After racking and pressing, malolactic fermentation is carried in tanks.
Breeding
A portion of the wine is aged in oak barrels (30%) to make a woody note, the other part is kept in vats to preserve the fruity aromas. These wines are racked regularly to allow for natural stabilization components. The vintage "Les Launes" is bottled after assembly and light filtration.
Tasting
To the eye, the color is dark garnet.
Nose, fruity, is marked by intense aromas of cassis, plum and violet.
This wine is full and round in the mouth, this powerful tannic structure which gives a good aging potential.
