From producer website:

Half of our Tensley Syrah production comes from this extreme, rugged and rigorously farmed vineyard that sits high in the mountains above Tepesquet Canyon. Colson’s hot days and cool nights are ideal for creating a deep, concentrated Syrah. Always an extracted and complex wine, this year’s moderate temperatures and low rainfall led to a Colson that is among our most inky-black and dense yet It is a wine to rival the highly-rated 2007 vintage. The Colson Canyon Syrah is aged in 80% neutral and 20% new French oak barrels. It’s the only wine we age in new oak. That oak can be detected in subtle notes of coffee and vanilla that integrate nicely into the Colson’s fruit-forward, jammy profile. This year’s Colson also shows hints of smoked meats, chocolate and pepper as well as leather and minerals. This Colson is very approachable now but can be aged up to ten years.
