From the Aubert 2012 CIX Estate Vineyard Sonoma Coast Chardonnay Tasting Notes
The pedigree of our CIX Estate vineyard is summed up by its soil and location. Situated along the same eastern fence line as our Lauren Estate vineyard, the soil shows remarkable variation–chalky white and sea salt in color—in contrast to Lauren’s gold-colored soil. Planted with a rare proprietary clone originating in Montrachet, the 2012 CIX intertwines common threads between Lauren Estate and White Burgundy. At CIX we have achieved our goal of producing another rich, opulent, site specific Chardonnay. The 2012 CIX Estate wine reaffirmed our decision to purchase and plant this land, and we are excited at what the future will hold.
The flawless growing conditions of 2012 offered us grape flavors with amplified intensity. The resulting wine expresses depth and concentration at a profound new level. As with all of our vineyards, the grapes were hand- picked at night and immediately moved in our refrigerated trucks to our winery. Indigenous fermentations were conducted in barrel and took a lengthy six months to complete. This wine was aged in 70% new French oak barrels for 12 months, and then carefully racked to tank to clarify and concentrate for three months before bottling.
Bottled in December 2013 unfined and unfiltered
