For generations, our family has lived for its passion – wines that are at once pure, authentic, and outstanding. Complacency is taboo. Ever striving to be a little bit better. OUR HISTORY

It is the 19th century. The cousins Johann Martin and Prof. Dr. Louis Häusser regularly met at Weingut Buhl in Deidesheim to discuss the democratic ideas of the times. But not only… Probably inspired by the surroundings as well as the local wine, they soon decided to purchase a vineyard of their own, thereby laying the cornerstone of today’s estate. Henriette Häusser, a granddaughter of the founder, married Eduard Christmann. The estate is named after their son, Arnold Christmann. To put it another way: passion and creativity have been part of our history from the outset – and ever since. To this today, the estate has been in the hands of the Christmann family, now in the 7th generation, and the name still stands for top growths that are second to none.



OUR FAMILY & TEAM

The human touch is inherent in every noble drop of wine. Not only in those who enjoy wine, but above all, in those who “bring the drops to life.” Today, two generations of Christmanns carry on in the tradition of the founders by devoting all their experience and know-how to growing grapes and making wine. They do so with great passion, enthusiasm, and dedication. A passion that’s infectious. From technician to worker to apprentice, every member of our team is totally committed to bringing forth the finest wines possible.



OUR WINES- THE VDP.CLASSIFICATION


VDP GUTSWEINE (ESTATE WINES – CRU REGIONAL)

This basic level of classification is modeled after the system practiced in Burgundy. It denotes wines produced from grapes grown in our vineyards. Even at this level, we work with great care. The white wines are fruity and lively; the reds, pleasantly firm.


VDP ORTSWEINE (VILLAGE WINES – CRU VILLAGES)

The impact of soil and origin is perhaps greater on Riesling than on any other variety. As such, this is the category we use for our typically fruit-driven wines from grapes grown in the colored sandstone soils of Ruppertsberg (rounded, full-bodied) and Gimmeldingen (piquant, lively). The wines from Königsbach are shaped by the mineral character of limestone. The origins of our Pinots and Gewürztraminer come forth during several stages of selective harvesting.


VDP KLASSIFIZIERTE LAGENWEINE (WINES FROM CLASSIFIED SITES – PREMIER CRU)

Classified sites are those special vineyards that reveal distinctive characteristics year after year. Wines from these sites bear the name of the village and site on their label, and are qualitatively comparable with a Premier Cru. This designation is reserved for Riesling and Pinots. (The same restriction applies to Grosses Gewächs.) With great finesse, these wines reflect the characteristics of their vineyard of origin.


VDP ERSTE LAGE (WINES FROM TOP SITES – GRAND CRU)

Wines of the highest quality are the “Grosse Gewächse Pfalz” from our top sites. They are produced and inspected according to the guidelines of the VDP. Comparable with a Grand Cru, these wines originate exclusively from the absolutely finest vineyards with discernible terroir qualities that have demonstrated their potential over a long period a time. Yields are extremely low (on average: 38 hl/ha). Only completely ripe grapes in optimal condtion are used in handcrafting these wines. Details on “Grosse Gewächs Pfalz” according to the VDP-Pfalz classification: • produced from classified sites based on the Royal Bavarian Soil Survey of 1828 and whose quality potential has been demonstrated over a number of years • maximum yield of 50 hl/ha • minimum must weight of 90° Oechsle • ongoing inspections of the vineyards by the Grosses Gewächs commission
