From winery website: 2000 Peter Lehmann Stonewell Shiraz
Stonewell Shiraz is the best, most concentrated Peter Lehmann Shiraz of vintage. Released July 2005.
Stonewell Shiraz has over the years been accorded the highest place in the echelons of Barossa Shiraz. 2000 Stonewell is the 14th of its line, and continues the great tradition of Barossa shiraz at its finest. Stonewell is made from the very best of the superlative Barossa Shiraz vineyards available to Peter Lehmann. The grapes are drawn only from low-yielding vineyards in the drier western areas of the Barossa Valley. These vineyards, some planted well over 100 years ago, produce sparse bunches with tiny berries – small black jewels – the secret of Stonewell Shiraz. The 2000 vintage, was very low yielding and consequently, the 2000 Stonewell Shiraz is a wine of great depth and intensity.
Fruit Sources: Low yielding vineyards in the Stonewell, Kalimna, Koonunga, Ebenezer and Greenock districts of the Barossa Valley.
Colour: Incredibly dense depth of colour with the first hints of maturity at the rim.
Bouquet: A concentration of the most luxurious of dark chocolate enveloped prunes, hints of mint and smoky oak complexity.
Palate: An explosion of dark chocolate and prunes reined in by fine, dusty tannins. It has the velvet intensity so characteristic of Stonewell Shiraz; the fruit, oak and tannins married in a totally harmonious whole.
Maturation: Fermented and thence matured for 18 months in a mixture of new French (73%) and American (27%) oak hogsheads. Bottled 12th February 2002.
Cellaring: A wine which can be confidently cellared under ideal conditions for many years.
Alcohol/Volume: 14.5%
Serving Suggestions: A superb accompaniment for robustly flavoured red meat dishes, rare beef with a fine demi-glace and rich game dishes. Best with hard cheeses such as Parmigiano Reggiano, Grana Padano, Peccorino or an aged Raclette.
