The Windmill Vineyard Pinot Noir is without doubt the wine we spend the most time on when selecting barrels and blends. With the two different fermentation approaches (whole bunch and de-stemmed), as well as keeping separate different sections of the vineyard (2.5ha), there are always a lot of different blending options to consider. In 2015, we decided to include only 9% of the whole bunch component.

Hand-picked on March 31, the crop was particularly small at only 2.51 tonnes/ha. Each component was fermented and matured separately in French oak puncheons and barriques (45% new) for 5 months, prior to blending and a further 4 months maturation in puncheons only (33% new). The wine was bottled without filtration in February, 2016.

As a young wine, the palate is lifted but remains focused with a firm, centred density. Enjoy an abundance of bright red fruits, with nicely weighted tannins and earthy undertones, which will no doubt build over time.
