2016 Sonoma Valley “Bedrock Vineyard” Zinfandel
A relatively average year in terms of yield (approximately 2.5 tons to the acre), both our blocks planted in 1888 ripened at the
same pace and were picked together on September 6th at an average Brix of 24.9. After a five-day cold soak, the must was
inoculated. Eleven days later the wine was dry and pressed to all French oak, 23% new. Unfined and unfiltered.
Tasting Note: Medium to medium-dark garnet-ruby. Whoa Nellie! Talk about an explosive nose! Incredibly potent
aromas of cherry, red currant, loamy earth, and a slight suggestion of tobacco leaf and vanilla. On the palate, positively
gorgeous! Just the right weight. Just the right texture. The phenolic nature of this wine has been well-managed in this
vintage, leading to a long, refreshing finish with well-balanced tannins. I’m looking very forward to enjoying this wine from
2019 through 2027
