From release newsletter:

2016 Russian River Valley “Papa’s Block” Syrah
Picked September 27th, this was another vineyard that excelled in this very strong vintage. To increase aromatics and to add a touch more structure, 22% of the fruit was not destemmed. Cold soaked for five days, the wine was fermented with several yeast strains that maximize aroma and mouthfeel. Twenty-three days on the skin. Aged in all French oak, 23% new. Bottled unfined and unfiltered.
Tasting Note: Very dark purple-ruby. Nearly opaque. A heady, intoxicating nose of blackberry, smoked meats, and herbs. Smells deliciously savory. Quite smooth and silky on entry, flavors of blackberry and blueberry are intertwined with lavender, violets, and spice cake. Gentle tannins emerge on the long and persistent finish. Totally compelling and a wine of great beauty and harmony. Already drinking well due to its impeccable balance, enjoy from release through 2028.
