Mad Hatter is a Bordeaux-style red wine produced from grapes from the estate vineyard at the base of Howell Mountain. The inaugural 2005 vintage is composed of 35% merlot, 5% cabernet franc, 55% cabernet sauvignon and 5% petit verdot. The wine was aged for 26 months in French oak barrels, in order to polish the tannins and add complexity to the wine. The winemaking team of Andy Erickson (Screaming Eagle) and Michel Rolland (a zillion other great wines) are working with vineyard manager David Abreu. Proprietors Bob Cook and Paula Brooks have assembled one of the most exciting teams in the Napa.
