Community Tasting Notes (average 93 pts. and median of 93 pts. in 106 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by liber on 5/9/2024 & rated 88 points: Last of 12, pnp, perfect cork and level, as December bottle, in decline, drink up! Still VG (16). (128 views)
Tasted by essenceofreal on 2/4/2024 & rated 93 points: I had high hopes for this after its been in my cellar for 15 years. Drank over 4 days. To be fair, the wax had chipped off the top already so was absolutely time to pull the cork! Which by the way came out way too easy, was a bit loose, uh oh.

First day was monolithic. I thought oxidized and over the hill. Could tell it was well made just meh on the profile. 88 points.

Next day seemed to open a bit and improved. Fourth day, now it started to emerge. That was a shocker. Acidity decided to show up for the party with nice tangy citrus. Mouthcoating unctuous finish. Good balance.

Glad I held on to it vs draining after the first day. I have one more, no telling how long these will last if in pristine condition. (383 views)
Tasted by liber on 12/19/2023 & rated 88 points: 11th of 12, pnp, perfect cork and level, in line with Feb bottle only more so, too fat and hiding typicity, now slightly darker with hints of oxidation through age rather than pox, so risks now on downside and time to drink up. This bottle still VG (16). (419 views)
Tasted by liber on 2/27/2023 & rated 90 points: 10th of 12, pnp, perfect cork and level, not the worst bottle but far from the best, pale gold, too fat and without authentic Chablis cut, though underlying salinity evident, sense of incipient pox, the Preuses appears to be holding up better (usually vice versa), downside, drink for safety. VGI (17). (1166 views)
Tasted by Ozen on 2/10/2023 & rated 96 points: Everytime I have the opportunity to taste Vincent Dauvissat's wines, no matter whether it is Les Clos, Les Preuses or Forest, his genius radiates thru. These wines are of such a sophisticated minerality, purity and focus to a level impossible to find in other Chablis than Vincent's.
I have nothing but great memories drinking his wines, and having met him once personally: when I praised his winemaking and he simply responded: I much rather be in my vineyards but I owe these people to attend this tasting". A true master of wine, dedicated to his mission. No need to say this is as good as it gets.

Ravenue is bigger and rich, like comparing a Chamber Orchestra to a genius solo violinist. I still prefer the Dauvissat most of my moods (1121 views)
Tasted by chablis28 on 11/29/2022 flawed bottle: My btl at Chez Jimmy! A great feast of Lamb & Prime rib in the hands of one of our favorite local Greeks! Corked but lightly early on. Showing what might have been for the first 30 minutes. Really sad! In my cellar since release! Oddly, I'm usually the first to notice a wine is corked & I had no idea till my buddies sounded the alarm? Bummer it was off! (1458 views)
Tasted by MJReb on 8/4/2022 & rated 95 points: Straw yellow color, the cork is wet on 2/3 of its length. From the first smell it is clear that this bottle is top notch: Ripe citrus (mostly orange and grapefruit), white pepper, iodine, sea shells. Good length with an extremely nice saline aftertaste. Much better and less evolved compared to the last one some months ago (same case). Bottles like this confirm the uniqueness of Chablis. (1433 views)
Tasted by liber on 6/24/2022 & rated 91 points: 9th of 12, pnp, perfect cork and level, incipient pox and slightly too fat and oily relieved by attractive salinity, though little minerality let alone flint, attractive but veering dangerously to tropical and not orchard fruit, clear risk of pox so drink up. F (17.5). (1392 views)
Tasted by The Guzz on 6/12/2022 & rated 93 points: Very happy and somewhat surprised to see this not POXED. Decanted for 3 hours. This was fresh and ready to go. Saline ocean and orchard fruit. Definitely broad fruited but kept in line. In a good spot to drink. (1139 views)
Tasted by liber on 2/26/2022 & rated 88 points: 8th of 12, pnp, perfect cork and level, heightened colour, whiff of oystershell maybe, but on palate flavours too broad and fat, lightly poxed, shame, drinkable but far from what it should be, drink up! VG (16). (1321 views)
Tasted by MJReb on 11/26/2021 & rated 92 points: From a ripe vintage and you taste it: ripe fruit, a mix of citrus and yellow fruit (peach?), saline and iodine notes and lots of white pepper in the aftertaste. A well done wine reflecting the hot vintage, not the magic of the real good vintages. The bottle was without default. I do not see any further upward potential. Drink it up. (1480 views)
Tasted by bill00 on 9/21/2021 & rated 91 points: Shows the vintage character with its size and ripeness but carries it well with plenty of acidity. Don't love the vintage for Chablis generally but this is a solid effort. (1568 views)
Tasted by joshabramson on 5/26/2021 & rated 95 points: More ripe and round and less lean than I was expecting. Drinking very well. (1791 views)
Tasted by liber on 4/2/2021 & rated 91 points: 7th of 12, pnp, perfect cork and level, fatter, indeed burly for Chablis, less typicity and mineral, sense of oxi round corner. F (17.5). (1646 views)
Tasted by liber on 2/17/2021 & rated 94 points: 6th of 12, pnp, perfect cork and level, on form, slightly fat yet, attractive and notable salinity, long and nuanced, upside. F+ (18). (1613 views)
Tasted by Harley1199 on 12/24/2020: 2020 Family Xmas; 12/23/2020-12/27/2020 (Alicante - España): Wax seal wrapping a long, good quality cork that appears half soaked. Aromatic lightness in a glyceric wine. Notes of bitter lemon, solidified wax, forged steel, empty shoe box, saline mineral,... complexity without limits with elegance and a high level of fineness. On the other hand some ultrasensible noses can claim for TCA. Amazing this wine world is. In the mouth there is density, acidity of ripe lemons, length and salinity that goes beyond usual, reaching a tremendous depth as a whole. The real discrimination suffered by this winery for being in Yonne is clearly unfair because its wines deserve all recognition. Merry Xmas!

¡Feliz Navidad! (1665 views)
Tasted by pigdaddy on 11/17/2020 & rated 92 points: decanted 30 min, cork soaked bottom third, but in great shape. full gold on decant but as often observed w/Dauvissat, color lightened w/aeration to a sunflower yellow; similarly, the nose took an hour+ to show up, air & temperature modulation helped; balance & weight good on palate, yet riper & more intense in fruit delivery, concentrated, med+ acidity.

penultimate bottle, purchased on release. really liked it tonight, liking it still. believe better consumed sooner as a bottle two years ago was electric. now that this producer has moved out of my price range, wish had bought more 'La Forest' in most vintages.

Tasted by liber on 9/28/2020 flawed bottle: 5th of 12, opened 30 minutes, perfect cork and level, lightly corked, heightened colour! (1344 views)
Tasted by englishman's claret on 8/31/2020 & rated 94 points: This has come a long way in a year and a half, and the classic "this is Chablis" nose continues to build and build. Still not totally ready, but much more promising than the last bottle, which seemed curmudgeonly. 94-95 (2441 views)
Tasted by liber on 8/1/2020 & rated 92 points: 4th of 12, opened 30 minutes, perfect cork and level, back on track, no hint of pox, tighter and more typical, clean bottles like this have scope to improve and shed puppy fat. F (17.5). (1250 views)
Tasted by liber on 6/3/2020 & rated 90 points: 3rd of 12, pnp, perfect cork and level, as April's bottle, odd nutty taste again, noted in some other 05s in early drinking window clearing or coming into better balance when fully mature, hopefully the case here as good enough structure and weight of fruit for the long haul, contrariwise not as well balanced as usual and the merest hint of pox on horizon....dilemma! VGI (17). (1351 views)
Tasted by chablis28 on 5/6/2020 & rated 92 points: Previous btl was 4yrs and 2 months ago. PnP 30 minutes before dinner. Translucent yellow gold color tonight. Displaying clean fresh but restrained citrus/seaside aromatics. Grand Cru power with regally elegant; citrus, trace stone fruit, mineral and hint of herbs with energetic acidity. My 2016 notes indicate I preferred that btl over this one. Perhaps this peaked between 2016 & 2018? That said, this is still a nice example if a bit short of Dauvissat stardom. CT says I have one more off site and based on this btl I'll grab it and drink up this year yet. 92+/93-. 13% alc. (1784 views)
Tasted by liber on 4/28/2020 & rated 90 points: 2nd of 12, opened 30 minutes, perfect cork and level, odd nutty element, otherwise close to March bottle, still attractive. VGI (17). (1476 views)
Tasted by liber on 3/19/2020 & rated 93 points: 1st of 12, pnp, perfect cork and level - pale, notably leggy for Chablis; excellent bouquet with fine style, proper minerality and citric cut, just a tad rich; medium, long, persistent, concentrated, slightly waxy, tad too sweet in the mid palate for my taste currently, energy to tighten and eat sugars, if so expect upgrade. F+ (18). (1391 views)

Les Clos

Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos exact outline

Les Clos is arguably the finest grand cru vineyard. Les Clos has greater density and power than the more elegant Vaudésir It is a deep and compact wine. The strong mineral core is of polished steel and this is enveloped in a luscious depth of fruit. If Vaudésir is the queen of the grand crus, Les Clos is the king. It ages wonderfully – a minimum of 10 years. It’s a large sunny vineyard, (28.39 hectares) facing south. It is quite rocky and has a higher level of limestone.

It is also a vineyard in Bussières

2021: "From a general standpoint, whether for white, rosé or red wines, 2021 is a year marked by quality in the Rhône Valley Vineyards. Structured, elegant, fresh and fruity will be the main keywords for this new vintage."

Burgundy

Les vins de Bourgogne (Bureau interprofessionnel des vins de Bourgogne) (and in English)

Burgundy - The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Cote d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Cote de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Cote de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Cote d'Or. Also included by some are the regions of Chablis and Auxerrois, farther north.

Burgundy Report | Les Grands Jours de Bourgogne - na stejné téma od Heleny Baker

# 2013 Vintage Notes:
* "2013 is a vintage that 20 years ago would have been a disaster." - Will Lyons
* "low yields and highly variable reds, much better whites." - Bill Nanson
* "Virtually all wines were chaptalised, with a bit of sugar added before fermentation to increase the final alcohol level." - Jancis Robinson

# 2014 Vintage Notes:
"We have not had such splendid harvest weather for many years. This will ensure high quality (fragrant, classy and succulent are words already being used) across the board, up and down the hierarchy and well as consistently from south to north geographically apart from those vineyards ravaged by the hail at the end of June." - Clive Coates

# 2015 Vintage Notes:
"Low yields and warm weather allowed for ample ripeness, small berries and an early harvest. Quality is looking extremely fine, with some people whispering comparisons with the outstanding 2005 vintage. Acid levels in individual wines may be crucial." - Jancis Robinson

# 2017 Vintage Notes:
"Chablis suffered greatly from frost in 2017, resulting in very reduced volumes. As ever, the irony seems to be that what remains is very good quality, as it is in the Côte d’Or. Cooler nights across the region have resulted in higher-than-usual acidity, with good conditions throughout the harvest season allowing for ripe, healthy fruit." - Jancis Robinson

# 2018 Vintage Notes:
"The most successful region for red Burgundy in 2018 was the Côte de Beaune. The weather was ideal in this area, with just enough sunlight and rain to produce perfectly balanced wines naturally." - Vinfolio

Chablis

Chablis (Fédération de Défense de l'Appellation Chablis) | Chablis (Burgundy Wines)

2014 Vintage Notes:
"... a hybrid of 2004/2007 and 2010. The stone, citrus and limestone amalgam is exactly what we search for in Chablis as the style harkens to a day in the Cote de Beaune proper (1960's - 1980's) when wine was not meant to be consumed the week it was released, battonage was not used by all and new oak was rarely seen ... the texture is natural and 'of the vintage' not 'of the winemaker' .... Like Sancerre or the Loire in general, 2014 in Chablis is one of those rare years with extract and transparency. It appears to be a vintage for the "neoclassic" ages and those of us intent on cellaring the most terroir-driven (but still powerful) examples of vineyard, site-place and varietal will want to invest (heavily) in the magnetic and electric 2014's." - Jon Rimmerman

2018 Vintage Notes:
"There’s not that razor sharp Chablis acidity in 2018,” says Patrick Piuze. “But there is good definition of place. The dry conditions drove vines to drink deeper down in the soil profile."
