Tasted by Leto South on 4/22/2018 & rated 89 points: Dark red, paling edge. Open bq w blackberries, smoke, minerals, chocolate.
Medium body w ripe tannins, balanced acidity, still good fruit content (black cherries). Medium aftertaste w some alcohol, fruit, good balance. Just past its peak, but very enjoyable. (1524 views)
Tasted by geppetto on 12/24/2015 & rated 92 points: This is drinking really well. Still has years to go. The nose was vibrant. Flavors of dark fruit dominate. (3335 views)
Tasted by aknot13 on 11/10/2015 & rated 90 points: Very enjoyable - not too old! (3260 views)
Tasted by JPH104 on 3/23/2015: Consistent with prior. (3607 views)
Tasted by aknot13 on 12/30/2014 flawed bottle: Slightly corked (3610 views)
Tasted by viadomitia on 6/3/2014 & rated 90 points: No formal notes. A simple, modern, juicy wine with low acidity and some spices. Some tartness knocks it down a little but should still improve for a few years. Still a super drink now! Would be happy to have a case of that! (3424 views)
Tasted by cobbpa on 5/21/2014 & rated 84 points: Good. Nice dark red fruit & body, with some roasted herb tones, but a little heat showed through on the finish. Went well with grilled meat but I'd drink up (1700 views)
Tasted by JPH104 on 4/4/2014: Needed 60 minutes of air. Fresher and more lively than expected given the vintage. Not too heavy. Good bottle for the price. (1404 views)
Tasted by familiepatel on 12/15/2013: Great wine with lamb. Smoky and some tannin. Smoother and some sweetness after breathing (1775 views)
Tasted by Vino Me on 10/25/2013 & rated 89 points: Opened by Mark. Dark ruby color. Supple tannins. Notes of plums and cassis. Light to medium bodied. 89 points (1889 views)
Tasted by viadomitia on 8/20/2013 & rated 90 points: After an hour of the bottle being opened, not properly decanted and this is the last glass so it has a little bit of silt in it. A dark purple brew. Nose of very ripe black plums and sweet cherries, menthol. A mouth coating wine which when swirled around the mouth and aerated reveals more dark fruit, with a hint of garrigue and wood. Low acidity. Well constructed wine but too bombastic for my taste. Because it is well crafted, I give it a 90, but it is definitely for those who like a fruity modern wine. I would prefer if it was richer in herbs and somewhat more acidic. (1940 views)
Tasted by chitowncdpguy on 6/5/2013: Pretty. Red berry and plums, spices, earthy minerality, shortish finish. Maybe fading a bit. (1843 views)
Tasted by chitowncdpguy on 4/29/2012: Nose and palate are both pretty restrained. Dusty red berry fruit on the nose and on the attack, then both red berry and plum tastes, hints of mineral and earth spice. Finish lingers pleasantly. (3254 views)
Tasted by Wink on 12/20/2011 & rated 89 points: Dark garnet. Nose of dusty earth, leather, dark fruit, and a little menthol. Ripe palate of cherry, blackberry, plum, spice, and minerals. Very good length. Pleasant acidity. Supple tannins. (3844 views)
Tasted by mmcdds on 9/30/2011 & rated 89 points: Very nice , fairly rustic med to full bodied with uncomplicated dark fruit, garrigue and leather. Certainly not a wine to contemplate but quite enjoyable none-the-less. Needed a good 3 hours in the decanter to open. On a side note, I personally fiind it abit disconcerting that the price point for just a "nice" bottle of wine keeps getting higher and higher. (3839 views)
Tasted by cmr on 6/17/2011 & rated 89 points: Was good and straightforward but a little simple. Not sure how much more this will improve though .. didn't seem to have the stuffing for the long term. (4183 views)
Tasted by TimmyR on 6/16/2011: No formal notes - Very fruit forward, maybe a bit too extracted, lots of dark fruit on the palate, integrated tannins and low acidity. Lacking overall freshness. (4179 views)
Tasted by geppetto on 3/26/2011 & rated 92 points: WOTN. This was amazing once again. It needs a couple of hours, but really starts to sing after a bit of air time. Amazing nose right out of the bottle. Ripe plum and dark berry on the palate. I love this wine and wish I had bought more. (3932 views)
Tasted by coremill on 2/26/2011 & rated 86 points: Grenache Tasting at Dan's (Chez Dan): Dark purple color. Slightly off-putting, chemically/pickle nose, with some plum aromas. Dark fruit palate, but lacking some depth, not a lot going on. Tannin is a bit coarse. Finsishes oaky. Needs time. Unexciting. (4214 views)
Tasted by bg2167 on 2/6/2011 & rated 84 points: Lots of structure and deserves more time. Elegant. (4085 views)
Tasted by geppetto on 1/22/2011 & rated 92 points: Wow! Thank you to whom ever it was that told me to buy this. Deep purple in color. Powerful nose with hints of ripe plums and hints of leather. Really smooth and ripe red fruits on the palate. Like really ripe bing cherry. Medium finish. Very nice wine. (4159 views)
Tasted by chitowncdpguy on 1/11/2011: Very interesting. Tarry up front with minerality and spice then some red fruit emerges and then fades as tea, mineral, and spice take over on the finish. Mouthwatering acidity. Outstanding. (4345 views)
Tasted by chitowncdpguy on 10/25/2010: Mighty tasty. Some dark fruit that is quite rich on the palate. Taste is more dominated by tea and earth spices, some hints of black pepper. Smooth. (4530 views)
Tasted by mmcdds on 9/12/2010 & rated 90 points: Needed nearly 3 hours in the decanter to resolve the aggressive tannins but then opened to a nice, fairly rustic cdr w/ plenty of dark berry, leather and garrigue. Not a whole lot of depth, but quite enjoyable nonetheless. (4837 views)
Tasted by leightonann on 5/31/2010: Very tannic still. Needs a lot of ageing. Not as immediate as say Santa Duc or Cayron (5558 views)

Domaine Brusset

Producer website
On this family estate established in 1947, the Brusset family has managed to combine the "savoir faire" of traditional winemaking with the new techniques introduced by each generation. The founder, André Brusset (1910-1999), his son Daniel, and his grand-son Laurent : three wine-growers and wine-makers with a variety of experiences have all contributed to the distinctive character of the Domaine Brusset, where three complementary generations together have achieved the best results.

Domaine Brusset is one of the leading estates in Gigondas, an ancient wine region known for sometimes out-performing its close neighbour Chateaneuf du Pape. The family-run estate has terraced vineyards at the foot of the rugged "Dentelles de Montmirail" in Gigondas, with a south-southeast exposure at an average altitude of 250m. The vineyard is planted out with noble varieties and is capable of producing wonderfully rich wines. Laurent Brusset is a perfectionist winemaker and owner of the domaine. Founded by his grandfather, André Brusset, in 1947 with vineyards in Cairanne, Cotes de Ventoux, Mondragon (Cotes-du-Rhone), Cairanne and the crown jewel, 20 hectares in Gigondas consisting of 68 individual terraces on an incredibly steep slope. This is one of the most spectacular vineyards in Gigondas - the vines face due south and emerge straight from the stone: they can only be cultivated in terraces. Rich and intense with the precision only found in fine wine. Flavours are full and dark with incredible depth, yet the detail in it, the mineral frame, the dried herb character and the fine acidity is what put the wines of Domaine Brusset in the top echelon of Southern Rhone reds.

Red Rhone Blend

Read about the different grapes used to produce red and white Rhone wines
On CellarTracker, Red Rhone Blend is the term for a wine consisting of two or more of the traditional 13 Southern Rhone grape varieties. Typically it's the Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre or Cinsault grapes, but can also contain the Muscardin, Counoise, Clairette, Bourboulenc, Picpoul, Roussanne, Terret Noir, Picardan or Vaccarese grapes.

A 'food' wine. Lacking pretension and intended for local consumption with local cuisine. Lacks the 'high' notes on a Bordeaux, more earthy and sharper so often a better partner to meat dishes with a sauce.
