Community Tasting Notes (average 91 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 20 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by oenanthe on 12/29/2023 & rated 92 points: Deep, rich, succulent, just perfectly judged fruitiness. Very dark cherry, coffee and 80% chocolate, round and alive. You can say it is young, but they are just so appealing at this age. Old Port is just completely different and with its own appeal, but I am just much more interested in them at this vibrant stage of their lives. Getting this case of 2007 VP halves delivered is proving to be very dangerous. They are young by Port standards, but the two we have had so far have been excellent - this one has the edge over the Gould Campbell as the balance was perfect. (267 views)
Tasted by Quaffable on 3/30/2022 & rated 88 points: Maybe just too young still. Sweet and fruity, but not very balanced. No browning. Got a little better a few evenings on. Didn’t really mesh with any nuts, chocolate, or blue cheese we tried with it. (899 views)
Tasted by Quaffable on 3/23/2022 & rated 87 points: Perfectly acceptable but not very interesting. Seems young, but not sure it will be better later. Surprisingly, it clashed with a rich chocolate cake. Ended up setting it aside until the cake was dispatched. Will see how the rest of the bottle is after being open… (778 views)
Tasted by sh6k on 6/23/2019 & rated 92 points: Tasty deep rich blueberries blueberries vanilla pepper. Tastes young but drinking well now. (2029 views)
Tasted by FandL on 8/27/2012 & rated 91 points: Probably opened this a few years too early, but enjoyed it nonetheless. Very dark purple, medium body and medium sweet. (7497 views)
Tasted by peternelson on 10/17/2010 & rated 92 points: Lots of bramble notes, roasted aromas, pure, concentrated blackberry in the nose; really black-purple color, smooth, good structure, and just medium sweet, which very much appeals to me. Tremendous. (6637 views)
Tasted by John McCabe on 5/18/2010 & rated 91 points: Nice and pleasant port, but nothing really interesting. Will be a crowd pleaser at a party, but nothing interesting here for the discerning oenophile. Having tasted the Graham's and Dow, this is definitely a lightweight, but still useful for the price.  Tasted by rjonwine@gmail.com on 3/27/2010 & rated 89 points: From 375 ml - oak, ripe cherry nose; youthful, ripe berry, plum, oak palate; medium-plus finish (2391 views)
Tasted by rjonwine@gmail.com on 1/23/2010 & rated 92 points: 2007 Vintage Ports (Beltramo's in Menlo Park, California): Opaque very dark red violet color; nice berry, blackberry, plum, oak nose with a sense of pepper; tasty, ripe berry, herbes de Provence, blackberry palate; medium-plus finish (3003 views)
Tasted by alanr on 1/23/2010 & rated 88 points: 2007 Ports at Beltramos: Quite sweet and ripe, some licorice and hints of herbs, tannins are on the mild side. (8245 views)
Tasted by Ben Christiansen on 11/4/2009: Apperently this is supposed to be better than '77 and '45. But production is down, way down, 33% of the total of 2003. More "syrah" like meat and spice notes than the QUinta do Vesuvio Interesting to taste back to back. All spice and game. Lively. Full bore on character compared to the Vesuvio. (7179 views)
Tasted by rjonwine@gmail.com on 10/24/2009 & rated 92 points: 2007 and other Ports with Dominic Symington (Beltramo's in Menlo Park, California): Very dark red violet color; blackberry, berry, black fruit, tar, licorice nose; deep licorice, berry, tar, herbal palate; long finish 92+ pts. (grapes sourced primarily from Smith Woodhouse old vine vineyards Quinta da Madalena in the Rio Toro and Quinta do Vale Coelho of the Douro Superior) (3048 views)
Tasted by vespasian on 5/26/2009: Spicy - nice fruit, a bit heady; very sweet cassis, violets. Simple but fine. (775 views)

Over a hundred varieties of grapes (castas) are sanctioned for port production, although only five (Tinta Barroca, Tinto Cão, Tinta Roriz (Tempranillo), Touriga Francesa, and Touriga Nacional) are widely cultivated and used.
