Tasted by kscaldef on 3/3/2017 flawed bottle: Musty, moldy aromas. Not the worst corked bottle I've ever encountered, but pretty gone. (1113 views)
Tasted by kscaldef on 3/3/2017 & rated 80 points: Second bottle opened was not corked, but only so-so. (1177 views)
Tasted by mwneil on 6/6/2014 & rated 86 points: I agree with a prior comment. This wine has consistency problems. I had to return some bottles to the winery due to lots of sediment in the bottles. I asked if their were problems with this vintage and they did not admit to any.
This bottle was good but not up to other Chalone vintages. Oak and fruit not fully integrated yet. Drank with salmon and lentils. (3200 views)
Tasted by milcopa on 3/9/2014 & rated 82 points: hit & miss chardonnay. Some bottles ok others are awful. (3346 views)
Tasted by mwneil on 1/10/2014 & rated 89 points: Typical Chalone Chardonnay; oak is nicely integrated with the fruit; could use a bit more acid; will see how this develops; (3596 views)
Tasted by milcopa on 11/24/2013 & rated 82 points: not a fan. Its got practically no fruit. Malo fermentation, oak & butter is all I get plus its hot. (2362 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 9/21/2013 & rated 87 points: Tasting. Nicely floral start with ripe apple aromas. Bigger and fatter on palate, but still reasonably balanced and energetic. Good now (4121 views)
Tasted by anthonysanchez07 on 9/5/2013 & rated 80 points: This is Chalone's entry level Chardonnay and certainly far, far away from their amazing Estate Chardonnay. A bit alcohol-y and with malolactic fermentation that falls short of being done well. Any fruit is overpowered by a butter taste that's not quite right. There are better entry level Chardonnay's at this price level. (1379 views)
Tasted by Mrbuzz on 8/16/2013 & rated 91 points: Great drinking chard....nice combo of calif fruit, burg minerality/citrus acidity. A house go-to chard. (2066 views)
Tasted by Windward Wine on 7/6/2013 & rated 89 points: Great bottle of wine for $12.99 (2015 views)
Tasted by Yme on 9/16/2012 & rated 85 points: Muted nose of white fruits and a little butter. Dry with a rather expressive palate of white fruits, butter and pineapple. Definitely a new world Chardonnay. Simple and refreshing. (1785 views)
Tasted by Barrygloec on 7/19/2012 & rated 88 points: Sandy had this at the Impudent Oyster and liked it. A relatively sweet chardonnay (1864 views)
Tasted by bobpsi on 6/5/2012 & rated 88 points: Moderate nose of stone fruits, lemon curd and spice. Medium body of pear, pineapple, lemon and cinnamon. Medium finish. (1743 views)

The Chardonnay Grape

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
