Tasted by Mikeh89 on 10/15/2020 & rated 88 points: In terms of value for money, this wine is up there. Thick and fruit driven, it drinks like a $300-400 Amarone. This wine is a meal on it's own. Exceptional value.
Would recommend opening with an Ah-So as the cork is brittle, but still in incredible shape. (1003 views)
Tasted by jrbates68@gmail.com on 7/20/2020 & rated 95 points: This wine is still holding up magnificently, although the cork disintegrated on extraction. The fruit is still really dominant and it is superbly smooth. (1034 views)
Tasted by MichaelSy on 5/2/2020 & rated 88 points: This was part of a museum release from JB to a select few bottle shops in 2019. Wine is a lot more than current vintage release. A lot of aged notes - soy sauce being one of them. Cork was faulty but wine was great. Want to know what a $25 wine tastes like after 18 years? Get one of these. (1101 views)
Tasted by Zweder on 10/13/2010 & rated 89 points: Monthly Tasting Group HWS #051; TOP Australia. (by EvA): Still almost black. Eucalyptus, menthol, ink, cassis, blackberries and spices in the bouquet. Same on the palate. Enormous concentration. A lot of sweetness, but also acidity and bitterness. Very ripe and soft tannin. With 15,5% high in its alcohol, but not really disturbing. Probably best now. Very good qpr. (3870 views)
Tasted by TexasBob on 4/26/2010 & rated 89 points: Gorgeous dark purple moving towards black. Decanted for 45 minutes. Huge fruit, old mulberries, and a bit of barnyard musk on the nose. Notes of red licorice, overripe blackberries, blueberries, and hints of coffee and tar. These notes ebb and flow on the 45-second finish. Solid mouth-feel and structure. This is a very tasty, bordering on delicious, wine. I was very surprised to note the high 15.5% alcohol - this doesn't drink or smell hot at all. (3653 views)
Tasted by TexasBob on 1/24/2010 & rated 91 points: Smoked meats and blueberries on the nose. Blueberries are less noticeable but present on the palate with mocha java, distant tar, and strong coffee on the finish. Thick, chewy mouth-feel. Very pleasant. (2879 views)
Tasted by T Lauren O'Neal on 1/16/2009 & rated 89 points: Well, this was my last one. This was one of the first cases I ever bought. It was fun to follow the evolvement of this wine. I think it's time to drink them for more time may be detrimental to the wine. Although the intensity of the wine increased over time, I liable to think I appreciated it in it's youth. I guess I'm not sure if I will ever appreciate the secondary characteristics associated with big Aussie fruit like I do a mature Bordeaux. (95 views)
Tasted by T Lauren O'Neal on 12/5/2008 & rated 89 points: Winter wine for sure! Still big and heady, I think this has peaked. (98 views)
Tasted by T Lauren O'Neal on 7/21/2008 & rated 89 points: Holding on strong. Nose is slightly developed and a bit more intense now. It's in a holding pattern but tended to enjoy a bit more when young. (92 views)
Tasted by rjonwine@gmail.com on 3/24/2007 & rated 89 points: Eucalyptus, berry nose; concentrated, heavy eucalyptus palate (916 views)
Tasted by blacky on 12/18/2006 & rated 90 points: Good stuff if you let it breath and give the fruit time to integrate and simmer down. I am a novice Shiraz drinker, but I am discovering that given time in the bottle realtively inexpensive bottles can become something really special. I do think it's time to drink this one, however. Thank you Wine Chateau. One of the very first wines I collected. (1707 views)
Tasted by rjonwine@gmail.com on 12/2/2006 & rated 93 points: Vanilla oak, caramel and rosemary nose; tasty, plummy, black fruit palate; medium-plus finish (868 views)
Tasted by jlittlefield on 11/28/2006 & rated 75 points: Too sweet for me. Almost undrinkable. (1910 views)
Tasted by Caliban on 11/12/2006 & rated 90 points: Agree with last post. This wine has no tannins to speak of, is full, soft, and complex, and is probably at its peak. (2012 views)
Tasted by thebonnydooner on 10/13/2006 & rated 89 points: Pretty darn good for the price. Dark cherry in colour, only a little lightening at the rim, nose was full of ripe blueberry and blackcherry fruit, but not overly sweet, some curry and blackpepper hints. Full bodied on the palate, ripe but not sweet or cloying, lots of blackberry and blackchery fruit, juicy acidity and very soft dry tannins. This wine probably is drinking about peak, there are no tannins to speak of and it will only start to lose fruit. Very good, just lacking a little complexity to be outstanding. (1836 views)
Tasted by blacky on 9/16/2006 & rated 91 points: Boy, this $ 17 wine is really drinking good right now. Let it breath for 4 or 5 hours in the bottle. It's really grown up in the last couple years. Thanks Matt. (1751 views)
Tasted by dfitzg2 on 3/11/2005 & rated 91 points: What a pleasant surprise! When my wine guy said this was one of his personal favorites (he can't asfford $30 bottles of wine for everyday drinking either) I was sold, but never expected this world-class taste. Distinctively full of fruit and smoothness. Definitely a keeper. (2334 views)
Tasted by oah21 on 2/20/2005 & rated 91 points: One of the best-value wines I have ever had the pleasure of drinking! Deep red, medium-to-full bodied with excellent balance: moderate acidity and soft, ripe, tannins. Chunky and inspiring aromas of dark cheries, damsons, pepper, leather and rich, sweet vanillean oak. The palate reinforces this with a minty, eucalyptus backbone and wonderfully long meaty finish. Hot, concentrated and rich, it is simply delicious! (2304 views)
Tasted by DrDave on 1/10/2005 & rated 78 points: Candied cherries. Sickeningly sweet. Zin like (I would have blindly guessed and assumed this was zin). Not my cup o' tea. (2496 views)
Tasted by SadEdjo on 12/26/2004: opaque purple. oppulent but not OTT blackberry, plum, spice & some floral. very good QPR. (1192 views)
Tasted by spidersva on 8/16/2004: About blew my socks off. Gah, I missed great Australian Shiraz. Buy a case of this. (1455 views)
