Community Tasting Notes (average 90 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 7 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by VinoDiver on 12/19/2015 & rated 93 points: This was such a wonderful surprise and a great example to show California Chardonnay can handle some age. It had been purchased upon release. Golden fruits, well balanced and still crisp. (2158 views)
Tasted by amflinn on 2/14/2013: Well past it's prime. Turning a light caramel color. (2951 views)
Tasted by mjayer on 7/12/2007 & rated 90 points: This continues to age ever so nicely. A warm rich mouthfeel with excellent balance. Custard and nuts developing on the palate. Finishing just a little short. (4166 views)
Tasted by mjayer on 2/7/2006 & rated 90 points: Loads of toasty oak, yet this frames the wine very well at this stage. Really very nice. Shows that Cali-chard (at least in some cases and styles) can age very gracefully. Still very much alive, with at least several years to go. Finish just a bit clipped. (4459 views)

The Chardonnay Grape

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
