Community Tasting Notes (average 89 pts. and median of 89 pts. in 7 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Diderot on 2/18/2024 & rated 83 points: This is a pathetic joke of a wine. At last, the wine industry (and the critics who enable and abet it) needs to step up and stop fudging and mincing words. This wine is worth about $11.99 on its best day. It is to Barolo what the Yugo is to automobiles. While the wine is not defective, its virtues are so attenuated that it is simply not worth drinking - least of all at the ridiculous retail price being assessed. With a flavor of stewed prunes, cinnamon, and no discernible tannins, this sad red wine might appeal to people who have no experience with Barolo or Barbaresco and who are just looking for some red wine to drink. I would never buy it again. (461 views)
Tasted by Asquiddy on 1/21/2024 & rated 89 points: I found the oak or aromatics a bit overwhelming, and overall the wine felt very heavy. Left for a few days in the fridge and came into balance a little better, gonna lay the rest down for at least 5 years, this needs some time for sure (421 views)
Tasted by PVJC on 11/22/2023 & rated 94 points: Popped & poured. First time opening one of these, and we really liked it. Medium bodied with good depth and expressiveness. Mildly drying but well integrated tannins. Paired well with leftover short ribs and agnolotti. (560 views)
Tasted by lancethomas on 3/24/2023: Popped/poured. A lot of VA… not for the sensitive. Probably needed more air or needs more time in bottle but I’m not sure this is ever really going to be a winner (975 views)
Tasted by Drankard on 2/22/2023: Drank over 5 hours. Light and easy on the palate. Drinks like a decent Langhe. Not much going on. Very doubtful of its future. Doesn’t compare to 13 & 10. 89-90pts. (1013 views)
Tasted by vinorsk on 1/22/2023 & rated 90 points: Bright, fresh acidity that is well integrated. Delicious black cherry notes. Fine, medium drying tannins and the perfect amount of bite. Like a lighter and slightly more sipe blaufrankish. Very enjoyable! (833 views)
Tasted by Utstein on 3/21/2022 & rated 89 points: Ruby red. Smell of red berries, some almond, strawberries and spice in the back. High acidity and and very present tannins, but quite fine and delicate. Cherries, liquorice, and spices. Very nice wine. Will let the next one stay in cellar for a little longer. (1091 views)

Nebbiolo

Nebbiolo is a red grape indigenous to the Piedmont region of Italy in the Northwest. The grape can also be found in other parts of the world, though they are not as respected.

Nebbiolo is often considered the "king of red wines," as it is the grape of the famed wines of Barolo DOCG, Barbaresco DOCG, and Roero DOCG. It is known for high tannins and acidity, but with a distinct finesse. When grown on clay, Nebbiolo can be very powerful, tannic, and require long aging periods to reach its full potential. When grown on sand, the grape exhibits a more approachable body with more elegant fruit and less tannins, but still has high aging potential.

"Nebbiolo" is named for the Italian word, "nebbia", which means "fog", in Italian and rightfully so since there is generally a lot of fog in the foothills of Piedmont during harvest.

Nebbiolo is a late-ripening variety that does best in a continental climate that boasts moderate summers and long autumns. In Piedmont, Nebbiolo is normally harvested in October.
