| Community Tasting Notes (average 93.6 pts. and median of 93 pts. in 14 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by forceberry on 4/22/2023 & rated 94 points: A ramato-style Pinot Grigio made by cold-soaking the pink grape skins overnight in the must prior to fermentation. Fermented with selected and aged on the lees in stainless steel tanks for 7 months. Partial MLF. Bottled in July 2009. 14,75% alcohol, 5,2 g/l acidity and pH 3,39. Total production 39,428 bottles, 1,488 half bottles and 404 magnums.
Pale bronze-red color with an evolved, deep amber hue. The nose feels complex, somewhat sweet-toned and very attractive with layered aromas of ripe orange, some evolved nutty tones, a little bit of bruised apple, light nuances of beeswax, a hint of leesy creaminess and a perfumed touch of fragrant floral character. The wine feels broad, big and quite concentrated on the palate with a full body and complex flavors of ripe orange and spicy red apple, some evolved notes of beeswax, a little bit of bruised apple, light resinous phenolic tones, a little bit of savory umami and a developed touch of cooked cream. Despite its ripeness and big body, the wine is surprisingly high in acidity, lending the wine great sense of freshness, structure and intensity. The finish is ripe yet savory with a long, powerful aftertaste of ripe orange and some bruised apple tones, a little bit of nuttiness, light developed savory notes, a hint of beeswax and an evolved touch of panna cotta.
A very impressive, structured and remarkably intense ramato Pinot Gris that is starting to show some age, yet is far from going downhill! The wine feels quite big and hefty, yet wonderfully fresh and structured at the same time, thanks to its high acidity. Although the wine might look like an orange wine, but it is more like a missing link between a white and a rosé wine - just a very concentrated and muscular one at that. I wouldn't keep the wine in the hopes that it would evolve much from here, as it feels the wine is pretty much on its plateau of maturity, but I believe the wine is going to keep just fine for a good handful of years more. This was not only my favorite of the night, but the wine also got a total of 11 points from the nine participants in our tasting of 12 Ščurek and Vie di Romans wines, finishing on first place! Terrific value at 35€. (672 views) | | Tasted by SWHighlander on 4/26/2020 & rated 93 points: Torn how to rate this wine. It is a beautiful wine, just amazing except that this bottle was a bit flat, especially for an Italian white. I suspect the acidity has waned in bottle and it would have been better a few years ago. It is golden orange in color from all the time on lees. Complex notes, a hint of salty brine like a good orange wine, and otherwise well balanced. Wanted to love it! Won’t cellar my other bottles any longer. (708 views) | | Tasted by Lyubomir Lefterov on 10/17/2019 & rated 93 points: Tuscan wines - dinner/tasting with fellow enthusiasts. (Maceda Restaurant - Varna): From the 9ha Dessimis vineyard, from relatively yung vines - 15y, this is spectacular now. Color is golden amber, absolutely sexy. Salty and savoury, some nuts as well. Very clean appearance with medium intensity, persistent throughout start to finish. 7mo on the lees, stainless steel only, but such a complex and enjoyable wine. Shared last place in our Pinot Gris tasting, it did not come close to being the great bottle I thought i would be. (1617 views) | | Tasted by Lyubomir Lefterov on 7/10/2013 & rated 92 points: The color tends to cognac in a very interesting lively style, the nose is attractive - apricots meet vanilla, the body is following it in a rather gently-er style, the alcohol is a bit higher and you can feel it occasionally. I had half of the bottle without food and the other half with food, and it was equally exciting. Blijft lekker hangen. Dit is weer zo´n ontdekkingsreis wijntje, steeds weer een nieuw laagje. Soft and round in body, yet distinct in flavors on palate. Excellent intro to Vie Di Romans. On the palate, it was soft and caressing with a zing of acidity, showing flavors of apple, vanillin, butter roasted nuts and sweet sun tea. A bit of alcohol is noticeable but fades as the long finish displays ripe wild berries. (3461 views) |
