Introduction

Hosted by the Washington Tasters Guild, this was a real treat provided to me by Tim and the great folks at Weygandt Wines in Washington, DC.

Flight 1 - Aperitif: Bourgogne Hautes Côtes de Nuits (1 Note)

Flight 2 - Chablis (2 Notes)

Pan Seared Chesapeake Rockfish, Parisienne Cantaloupe, Honey Dew and
Watermelon, Citrus Emulsion and Coriander

  • 2005 Domaine Louis Michel Chablis 1er Cru Montmains 88 Points

France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru

Wet sweater on the nose contrasts with lemony fruit on mouth entry, followed by a saline mid palate and a minerally finish. Quaint on its own but excellent with fish.

  • 2005 Albert Pic Chablis 88 Points

    France, Burgundy, Chablis

If I weren't attending a 2005 white burgundy tasting I wouldn't have guessed this was Chablis - much more like Sauvignon Blanc in every dimension other than mouthfeel. Kelp and white pepper nose, briny grass in the mouth with a bracing acidity on the finish.

Flight 3 - Côte de Beaune (3 Notes)

Marcel’s Classic Boudin Blanc, Celery Root Purée,
Truffle Red Wine Essence

  • 2005 Dujac Fils et Père Puligny-Montrachet 90 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet

Very interesting wine as it had many aroma and flavor profiles I'd normally associate with a light-bodied red with a bit of age on it. Maybe it was because I had just tasted several very similar, more citrusy wines, but I got a ton of green olives on the nose and then nutty and raisiny flavors on the palate. It really grabbed hold of the scent of white truffle oil on my food plate - to the extent I had a difficult time discerning which was more intensely affecting the experience of the other. Enjoyed this for the experience of a chardonnay drawing out the darkest tones in a dish.

  • 2005 Louis Jadot Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Morgeot Clos de la Chapelle Domaine du Duc de Magenta 90 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru

Sweet cream nose with lemon zest and a touch of lavender, lush bodied, light lemon and faint pear in the mouth, has a nice edge at the end but overall quite silky.

  • 2005 Louis Jadot Beaune 1er Cru Grèves Le Clos Blanc Domaine Gagey 91 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Beaune 1er Cru

Peach blossom nose, lush nectar in the mouth, bright and full; medium finish is the only factor keeping this from scoring higher for me.
