Introduction

Another great tasting - some amazing wines were poured tonight. Thanks Dan!

  • 1982 Château Le Bon Pasteur 92 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol

First bottle opened was very slightly corked. Showed of pencil lead, plums and mushrooms. Silky, balanced, with a slightly short finish.

Second bottle was much better, at least for a little bit. Nose of tobacco and pencil lead. Lovely, silky palate, with dark red fruit, a bit of red bell pepper, and just enough acid. A bit of black pepper as well. I wanted to give it time to show even better, but instead it faded hard into a garbagey mess after 30 mins in the glass. 92 points at its best showing.

  • 1985 Château L'Evangile 94 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol

Nose of tobacco leaf. Bright red cherries with a touch of earthiness. Nicely acidic. Tobacco notes over time. Lengthy, acidic finish. Very, very nice. Still on the younger side of its prime.

  • 1995 Château Cheval Blanc 92 Points

France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru

Leathery nose. Elegant wine. Shows almost like an older syrah, but there are clear cab franc notes. Plums and toasty oak; a bit creamy. Slightly short finish. Too much oak, but otherwise a cery nice wine.

  • 1995 Charles Joguet Chinon Clos de la Dioterie 87 Points

    France, Loire Valley, Touraine, Chinon

A bit of cherry, and musty earthiness on the nose. Acidic, dark cherry on the palate. Balanced, with some earthy notes. A bit of ammonia or cat pee thing going on too. Just didn't do it for me.

Flight 4 (2 Notes)

  • 1993 Château Haut-Brion Blanc 91 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan

Roussanne or Sauvignon Blanc were my guesses for the grape on this. Lemony nose with slightly floral and grassy elements. Tasty and easy drinking, but not overly simple. A bit of lemon rind. Tropical fruits, papaya, orange rind and lanolin. Very nice.

  • 1996 Coche-Dury Puligny-Montrachet Les Enseignères 92 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet

Funky Burgundy nose (overcooked popcorn?) - I can already tell this is a Coche. Much nicer with food. Very tough for me to get past the nose, although when I do, it's a beautiful wine. Nice woodiness. If it weren't for that 86 I had that was so amazing, it'd be easy to swear off these given the price point.
