Introduction
Another great tasting - some amazing wines were poured tonight. Thanks Dan!
Flight 1 (2 notes)
White - Sparkling
1990 Deutz Champagne Blanc de Blancs
93 points
Lovely nose of almonds, hazelnuts. Fruit driven palate. Light, spritzy grapefruit notes. Nicely acidic.
White - Sparkling
1990 Billecart-Salmon Champagne Blanc de Blancs Brut Millésimé
93 points
Beautiful, nutty nose, with a bit of brioche. Apples and a touch of lemon on the palate. Acidic, well balanced, and beautiful.
Flight 2 (2 notes)
Red
1982 Château Le Bon Pasteur
92 points
First bottle opened was very slightly corked. Showed of pencil lead, plums and mushrooms. Silky, balanced, with a slightly short finish.
Second bottle was much better, at least for a little bit. Nose of tobacco and pencil lead. Lovely, silky palate, with dark red fruit, a bit of red bell pepper, and just enough acid. A bit of black pepper as well. I wanted to give it time to show even better, but instead it faded hard into a garbagey mess after 30 mins in the glass. 92 points at its best showing.

Red
1985 Château L'Evangile
94 points
Nose of tobacco leaf. Bright red cherries with a touch of earthiness. Nicely acidic. Tobacco notes over time. Lengthy, acidic finish. Very, very nice. Still on the younger side of its prime.
Flight 3 (2 notes)
Red
1995 Château Cheval Blanc
92 points
Leathery nose. Elegant wine. Shows almost like an older syrah, but there are clear cab franc notes. Plums and toasty oak; a bit creamy. Slightly short finish. Too much oak, but otherwise a cery nice wine.
Red
1995 Charles Joguet Chinon Clos de la Dioterie
87 points
A bit of cherry, and musty earthiness on the nose. Acidic, dark cherry on the palate. Balanced, with some earthy notes. A bit of ammonia or cat pee thing going on too. Just didn't do it for me.
Flight 4 (2 notes)
White
1993 Château Haut-Brion Blanc
91 points
Roussanne or Sauvignon Blanc were my guesses for the grape on this. Lemony nose with slightly floral and grassy elements. Tasty and easy drinking, but not overly simple. A bit of lemon rind. Tropical fruits, papaya, orange rind and lanolin. Very nice.
White
1996 Coche-Dury Puligny-Montrachet Les Enseignères
92 points
Funky Burgundy nose (overcooked popcorn?) - I can already tell this is a Coche. Much nicer with food. Very tough for me to get past the nose, although when I do, it's a beautiful wine. Nice woodiness. If it weren't for that 86 I had that was so amazing, it'd be easy to swear off these given the price point.
Flight 5 (2 notes)
Red
1990 Domaine Michel Gaunoux Corton-Renardes
77 points
Nose of cola. bitter, somewhat acidic. Not good. Astringent, with a malic / lactic / sour milk thing going on.
Red
1978 Maurice Écard Savigny-lès-Beaune
92 points
Elegant nose of strawberry and limestone. Acidic, bright young strawberry fruit. Delicious.
Flight 6 (3 notes)
Red
1967 Château Latour Grand Vin
95 points
Nose of white pepper, red plum, and raspberry. Gorgeous, silky wine. Mature, but not fading at all. My guess was a 1970.
Red
1964 Paul Jaboulet Aîné Châteauneuf-du-Pape Les Cèdres
flawed
Unappealing nose of nail polish and burnt orange. Very acidic on the palate, with orange and a touch of tobacco. Past its prime, but can taste a bit of the promise it once held.
Red
1981 Château Certan de May
92 points
Dark, leathery, plummy, earthy nose. Tasty and balanced, with nice acids. Elegant, earthy, mushroomy notes with lovely strawberry and raspberry fruit.
Flight 7 (2 notes)
Red
1980 Cantina Mascarello Barolo
90 points
Lovely dark nose, with hints of iodine. Nice, acidic fruit. Strawberries, dark cherries and some exotic fruits. Slightly short finish.
Red
1991 Domaine Armand Rousseau Père et Fils Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos St. Jacques
97 points
Lovely elegant nose - unquestionably a burgundy. Gorgeous, elegant wine on the palate. Perfectly in harmony. Wonderful. Edges out the 67 Latour for WOTN.
