Introduction

Dinner at home - fillet steak (I know I know but we love it) with home made, twice fried beef dripping chips. K thought I had done too many potatoes but we finished them all off. A bit of a faff but worth it I think.

Flight 1 (3 Notes)

  • 2012 Moët & Chandon Champagne Grand Vintage

    France, Champagne

Rich, lively, well balanced. Thoroughly enjoyable - and an incredible bargain at a supermarket 25% off offer. Enjoyed while using the deep fat fryer in the garden in very low light. Pleased to report that no injuries were sustained.

  • 1978 Château Montrose

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Estèphe

Colour - ruby, just the faintest bricking on the edge. Still looking in the prime of life. On the nose - started off with a bit of sweaty funk - in fact I was a little worried that the bottle was bad. After 15 minutes it started to clean up, and after 45 minutes it was just perfect - a little forest floor, classic clarety nose - cigar box. On the palate - fresher than it deserved to be - with great length - just a lovely mature claret. I’d bought this following a superb showing at a dinner (when such things were allowed) - just as good as I’d hoped. Of course the last sip was the loveliest.

  • 2012 Domaine Treloar Côtes du Roussillon Tahi

France, Languedoc Roussillon, Roussillon, Côtes du Roussillon

Yum. Popped and poured after the Montrose 78 had vanished, because I wanted something to go with cheese. Was not embarrassed by the comparison - poised, well put together - a thoroughly decent wine and great value for money.
