BOKA Restaurant, Chicago IL
Tasted Tuesday, November 3, 2009 by MatthewF with 973 views
A group of us met up at the always fantastic BOKA restaurant for a night of great food and to explore the wines of Domaine Roumier. All wines were served single blind within their flights.
Some bubbles to start.
A much more darker color than the '98. The nose had a honeyed lemon character on both the nose and palate. The acid on the palate was slightly more tart that I would have liked to have seen it.

A citrus peel nose (mostly lime) with a bit of smoke and some wood spice. Ripe fruit on the palate with a mineral backbone and very good length. Some spice on the backend as well. Showing very well.

Beautiful dried red cherry and raspberry on the nose with some savory herbs and a touch of cinnamon. The same fruit on the palate with excellent spice throughout. Great length with a seamless finish. Absolutely beautiful.

Pretty, ripe red cherry and berry on both the nose and palate. Moderate spice throughout with a somewhat hollow midpalate in my opinion. Medium bodied with some very nice mineral notes.

Briary red fruit with baking spice on the nose. Good spice on the palate, but overall something was just not right here. Medium bodied with a shorter finish.

Dark red berry and cherry on the nose with lots of sweet baking spice (some clove and cinnamon). A mineral note as well. A fruit forward palate with excellent spice throughout. Fantastic length with a great balance of acidity and minerality. Keeps getting better and better over the hour or so I had some left in the glass.

A "older nose" of dried cherry and cranberry with some dirt/soil as well. A leaner palate, but still has some pretty fruit and is soft on the palate. Drinking very well with great spice. Delicious.

Powerful, intoxicating dark cherry and raspberry nose with some great savory spice notes. A good bit of gripping tannin remaining. A dense wine with great structure. Very, very nice.

A very powerful wine. A somewhat leaner, darker fruit nose and palate that, in my opinion, was slightly shut down. The class is obvious and there is quite a bit of tannin. Some gorgeous savory spice started to emerge with time in the glass. This is going to be really special someday and I wish I had some in the cellar.

Fragrant, cherry cola nose with some delicate floral in the background. A lush, fruit forward palate with just a touch of tartness. Has nice grip on the finish and nice spice throughout. A very pretty wine.

A bonus bottle to round out the evening.
Ripe, dark berry nose with a healthy dose of sweet baking spice. Powerful savory herbs as well in the aromatics. Ripe cherry and berry on the palate with powerful spice throughout. Fantastic balance of minerality and acidity. Very, very nice. Showing surprisingly well for a Corton this young.

1996 Henri Giraud Champagne Grand Cru Aÿ Fût De Chêne Brut

A waxy lemon nose and brioche nose with a good bit of oxidation. Palate was decent, but not exciting. Not many bubbles.
